About Us

Self-Paced & Community-Based

The Science Coding Immersion Program (SCIP) is a self-paced, community-based immersive program created to provide students and faculty with little-to-no experience an opportunity to learn how to code. SCIP is an all-virtual program, where groups of 5-6 students (or faculty!) meet together to learn coding skills, solve coding problems, and build a community.

Our Story

The COVID-19 pandemic impacted all sectors of academia, including research and summer opportunities for students. In response to this, the Science Coding Immersion Program (SCIP) was established by members of the CoDE Lab at San Francisco State University to provide a remote opportunity that could help students learn how to code and empower them to take part in a supportive scientific community. Moving forward, we continue to strive for these goals for not only San Francisco State Students but also for students within the Biology and Biochemistry fields.
